What are Advanced Materials?

These materials share several common traits: a) they are all highly engineered, b) each was created for a specific purpose, c) their manufacture is high value-adding.

Examples: Nanostructure materials, Thermal spray powders, Fiber-reinforced polymers, Micro-electro-mechanical systems, Ceramics, and other highly engineered materials can be called advanced materials

What is Diversified Manufacturing?

Diversified Manufacturing is manufacturing techniques that make use of computer, high precision and information technologies in the development of a better product suitable for more immediate use at less cost.

Examples: High-speed machining, Robotics, Lasers used in material processing, Computer-aided design/engineering software.

What is Information Technology?

Information technology is a branch of engineering that deals with computerized and auxiliary automated information handling, including systems design and analysis, conversion of data, computer programming, information storage and retrieval, voice, video, and data communications.
 
Examples: Software development, Telecommunication technology, Computer hardware, Data processing, Data transmission.

What is Bio-Medical?

Biomedical combines many different subjects areas related to medicine - such as physiology, psychology, infection and immunity, pharmacology and molecular biosciences.

Examples: Bio-medical and Health Informatics, Bio-medical engineering, Bio-medical research, and Bio-medical textiles.

What is Life Science?

Life Science is any of the branches of natural science dealing with the structure and behavior of living organisms.

Examples: Nutrition, Genetics, Agriculture improvement, Pharmaceuticals. 

What is Energy?

The energy industry is a generic term for all of the industries involved in the research and development and production of energy.

Examples: Renewable energy, solar power, wind power, coal industry, alternative fuels.

What is Environmental Technology?

Environmental Technology is the application of the environment sciences to conserve the natural environment and resources, and to curb negative impacts.

Examples: Renewable energy, Recycling, Solar power, Green technologies.

What is Defense?

The defense industry is comprised of government and commercial industry involved in research, development, production, and service of military equipment and facilities.

Examples: Body armor; Robotics, Information systems.

What is Homeland Security?

The term homeland security refers to the broad national effort by all levels of government to protect its territory from hazards, internal and external, natural and man-made.

Examples: Emergency preparedness and response, Airport security, Detection of radioactive and radiological materials.
