McKelvey Camp Entrepreneur®
At 2002 McKelvey Camp Entrepreneur, held from June 22 through the 28, the 2001
McKelvey Scholars returned to help introduce the new McKelvey Scholars to the
scholarship program and to their first year of college. In order to help the
2002 Scholars adjust to college, the 2001 Scholars compiled the Freshman
Advice Query (FAQ), based on their experiences during freshman year.
Incoming college freshmen from rural communities, who otherwise
might not have attended college, attend a special summer camp as part of a program
intended to assist young people in returning to their roots with the skills
and ability to help these economically depressed rural areas. The scholars were
selected based on their ability to incorporate entrepreneurship into their daily
lives.
Begun in Pennsylvania and extended to students in New York and West Virginia,
the scholars attend an entrepreneurial camp at Seton Hill University, receive
scholarships for tuition, laptop computers and, in some cases, other expenses,
and become interns at any McKelvey-owned enterprise throughout the globe. Andrew
McKelvey, Chairman and CEO of TMP Worldwide, the parent company of Monster.com,
and his wife Dena fund the scholarships. For more information about these scholarships,
visit the McKelvey
Foundation website.
